Day of Restoration of Independence to be Celebrated with Flag Hoisting in Downtown Chicago

On the 18th of October, Azerbaijan commemorates the Day of Restoration of Independence, known in Azerbaijani as “Azərbaycanda Müstəqilliyin Bərpası Günü.” This significant date marks the moment in 1991 when the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan adopted a Constitutional Act, declaring Azerbaijan’s independence. In solidarity and celebration of this momentous occasion, Downtown Chicago is set to raise the Azerbaijani national flag.

The symbolic event will be held at the renowned Richard J. Daley Center, a focal point in Chicago’s bustling downtown. The Azerbaijan Center of Midwest America (ACMA) is at the helm of organizing this ceremony. As the Azerbaijani tricolor flag unfurls against the Chicago skyline, the poignant notes of the Azerbaijani National Anthem will resonate, reminding attendees of the pride and spirit of the Azerbaijani nation.

Expressing his anticipation for the day, Mr. Farid Mammadov, the head of ACMA, said, “Our annual flag-raising in Chicago has become a revered tradition. It offers us a platform not only to honor Azerbaijan’s significant milestones but also to share these moments with our international community.”

All are welcome—whether residents of Chicago or visitors—to partake in this special occasion. Beyond the raising of a flag, it signifies unity, mutual respect, and the intertwined histories that bind nations together.
