Statement on September 27 — Remembrance Day

On September 27, the Azerbaijan Center of Midwest America (ACMA) joins Azerbaijani communities around the world in observing Remembrance Day. We honor the service members and civilians who lost their lives, those who were wounded, and the families who continue to carry the pain of their loss.

The date marks the beginning of the 44-day war in 2020. For many families, it also brings to mind a longer history of conflict, displacement, and separation from home. Today is an occasion to remember the people behind that history: parents, children, spouses, friends, and neighbors whose lives were changed forever.

As a cultural and educational center, ACMA helps share Azerbaijan’s history and heritage with communities in the American Midwest. Remembrance is part of that work. We want younger generations to understand the sacrifices made by those before them and to approach this history with compassion for everyone affected by war.

We hope for a lasting peace in which Azerbaijani and Armenian families alike can live with security and dignity. Through education, cultural exchange, and respectful dialogue, communities here in the United States can help make understanding possible.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen and to all who have suffered. May their loved ones be remembered with honor. May they rest in eternal peace.
