In Remembrance of January 20th: A Tragic Day in Azerbaijan’s History
On this solemn day, we remember the tragic events of January 20, 1990—a day forever etched in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people. Known as Black January, this day marked the brutal military intervention in Baku, where hundreds of innocent lives were lost, and countless others were injured. Despite the immense suffering, it became a pivotal moment in Azerbaijan’s path to independence, symbolizing the resilience and unity of its people.
The Azerbaijan Center of Midwest America extends its deepest condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and all Azerbaijani communities worldwide. We honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for our nation’s freedom and sovereignty.
Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Let us continue to work together to ensure their legacy inspires future generations to uphold the principles of justice, peace, and national pride.
May their souls rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Azerbaijan Center of Midwest America
